[ Tricks and Points ]

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Competition format design for individual pilots, pairs and team two lines.


Operations organization

_ The organizer has to furnish a tent or a define area to centralize operations, to display pilots listing, results and to allow the marks calculations. Spot should be convenient for requirements of judges, sound engineer and speaker.


1 / REGISTRATION

_ Competitors have to submit registration at least 15 days before competition.
_ Number of inscription is limited to 18.


2 / COMPETITION

2-1 FIELDS
_ Training field (optional).
_ Competition field is a 80m diameter circle; it is highlighted by one line (lime or plastic ribbon), thereafter called "red line". It includes a 5m diameter circle at centre to help pilots to position.
_ Stage in and stage out are defined according to wind direction and available adjacent areas.

2-2 REQUIRED STAFF
_ 2 lines judges.
They judge if a competitor or his kite crosses the " red line ".
_ 1 field director.
He announces to pilot (if pilot wishes so) tricks integrated in pilot's ballet and the remaining time.
He informs pilots when judges are ready to perform, ensures start of the music ballet, clocks show's time, check wind speed and oversees pilot's displacements during show.
_ 3 judges.
They judge pilot's show according to the given tables points. At the end of competition, they calculate final marks and establish ranking.

3 / FLIGHT CONDITIONS

3-1 Maximum wind range: 35 KM/H

3-2 Minimum wind range: 0 KM/H

3-3 Wind monitoring
_ Pilots may ask to field director to monitor wind speed during the first minute of his show. He asks so by saying " Wind Check ". If the request is performed during flight, pilot(s) has (have) to continue his (their) performance until end of the monitoring. Field director monitors wind speed during 15 continuous seconds and announces to pilot(s) the mean wind speed. If speed is out of wind range, pilot(s) may choose to stop the performance. If so, field director asks him (them) to land kites. Performance is suspended up to better wind's conditions.

3-4 Extreme conditions
_In extreme conditions such as continuous rains, thunderbolts or wind out of allowed range, pilots may decide to continue or not competition by a hand up vote.

4 COMPETITORS PREPARATION

4-1 Competitors have to be ready to perform at least 3 rounds before their own.

4-2 Before competition start, performances order is randomly determined. A listing is established and given to judges, field director, speaker and a copy is displayed for pilots.

4-3 Pilots is responisble to start his performance in time, even in the absence of a " regulator " staff member.

5 / COMPETITORS' OBLIGATIONS

5-1 PROGRAMM
_ Each competitor has beforehand to fill a form (furnished during the inscription) with order and names of the tricks which will be performed during the ballet.
_ Between 6 and 12 tricks (maximum) for individual category.
_ Between 6 and 9 tricks (maximum) for pair category.
_ A trick can not be chosen more than twice on the program. But during ballet, it can be performed as much as wished; they will be taken in account in style and legibility marks.
_It is only the first trick trial (appearing on program) that is taken in account by judges.
_ The ballet duration is between 2 and 3 minutes on music for individual category.
_ The ballet duration is between 2 and 4 minutes on music for pairs category.

5-2 BRIEFING
_ Signature of the presence data sheet.
_ Collection of the tricks' forms.
_ Determination of passage order.
_ Collect of music tapes and CDs.
_ Presentation of staff judges.
_ Answering questions from competitors.

5-3 HELPERS
_ Each competitor has to come up for performance with one or more helpers of his own choice. Pilots may set their helpers wherever they want.

5-4 INSTALLATION TIME
_ Once on the field, pilot or pair has 90 seconds before starting up his (their) performance.
_ During this period, pilot or pair may change 2 tricks of his (their) programm.
_ If competitor(s) do not start his (their) performance in required timing, field director will inform judges who will inflict a penality. Pilot(s) will thereafter get a 45 seconds extra timing before disqualification. Music will start only on pilot's requirement.
_ Chronograph will start with the " IN " and stop with the " OUT ".

6 / EQUIPEMENT

6-1 Competitors may use any kind of two lines kites.

6-2 It is advised to pilots and pairs to use a maximal line length of 38 meters regarding the field dimensions.
6-3 Pilot or pair disposes of 45 seconds during his (their) performance to fix or change broken lines or to exchange a broken kite by one of the same model.
6-4 Pilot or pair that will break during the first 30 seconds of his (their) performance will dispose of 1 minute to exchange or fix the material. They can afterwards restart the performance at the very beginning.

7 / MARKS AND NOTATIONS' CRITERIAS

7-1 MARKS SYSTEM

Ballet :
_ Technical note represents 60% of final ballet's mark. It takes in account only quality of the tricks.
_ Style note represents 40% of final ballet's mark. It takes in account the fluidity, risk taking, fluidity, artistic feeling and legibility.
_ Ballet's mark represents 60% of final mark.

Imposed tricks:
_ 4 from the 8 selected tricks will be chosen by judges prior to competition regarding to wind conditions.
_ Each trick is notated once on a 10 points base; meanwhile, competitor may performed the trick a second time, but notation will be on a 8 points base. Judges will take in account highest mark.
_ Imposed tricks' mark represents 40% of final mark.
_ Points attribution: cf. " Points tables ".


7-2 PENALITIES
_ Delays at briefing will induce a 5% reduction penalty on the final mark. The presence of one member of a pair or team is sufficient.
_ Soil touch: 1 point reduction if touching is noticed by a majority of judges.
_ Fall: Chute: 2 points reduction.
_ Incorrect ending: 3 points reduction.
_ Preparation's time exceeding: 3 points reduction.
_ Different penalties will be deduct on technical notes.
_ Individual pilot may cross once the red line during a 20 seconds lap time. Next crosses induce a 1 point penalty for every 15 seconds spent out of the field.
_ Pairs pilots may cross twice the red line during a 20 second lap time. Next crosses induce a 1 point penalty for every 15 seconds spent out of the field.

7-3 DISQUALIFICATION
_ To be late on competition field.
_ To be unable to start in the maximum allowed preparation time ( 90 + 45 seconds) offered.

7-4 COMPLAINTS
_ Pilots may complain, in a written or verbal form, to judges immediately after the incident. After judgement, decision will be announce to pilots before the end of the competition.

8 / END OF COMPETITION

8-1 DEBRIEFING
_ Will held 1 hour before the price distribution.
_ Ranking will be announced and results published.

8-2 PODIUM
_ The 3 firsts are invited to be present with their materials.
_ Time schedule will be determined according to general organization.
